What is it?
Hydrogen peroxide, H2O2, is used as a first aid antiseptic/oral debriding agent. Hydrogen peroxide for topical use often comes in a 3 percent solution in water. Hydrogen peroxide topical solution has been used in the treatment of inflammatory conditions of the external auditory canal and as a mouthwash or gargle (eg, in the treatment of pharyngitis or Vincent's stomatitis). Hydrogen peroxide has also been applied in root canals of teeth or other dental pulp cavities. Hydrogen peroxide is also strong oxidizer and is used industrially as a bleaching agent and disinfectant.
